Father’s Day Nuts and Bolts Art & Frame

Looking for a cute, hand-made gift that your kiddo can make for Dad for Father’s Day?  Is Dad a handy kind of guy? Then take a look at today’s picture frame craft and art project using nuts and bolts!

Nuts and Bolts Art and Frame

You Will Need:

  • a variety of nuts and bolts from the hardware store (we used the ones left over from our Personalized Plaques project – also for Father’s Day!)
  • a picture frame with a mat
  • hot glue gun
  • a small canvas or white paper
  • acrylic or tempera paint

First, Onetime (my 2.5 year old son) had a lot of fun making art by dipping the nuts and bolts in a variety of paint colours and pressing and rolling them on the canvas.

Onetime ended up enjoying the paint so much that he began fingerpainting as well and then at one point started dripping the paint onto the canvas and exploring even more!

After painting with the nuts and bolts, we let them dry.

To make the frame, Onetime picked up a nut/bolt and put it where he wanted it – and I hot-glued it on for him.  We glued directly onto the glass of the frame.

I think it turned out beautifully!  Oh, and we purposely colour-coordinated with the picture that we wanted to frame – which helped it look nice too!  I think Dad is going to love this picture and cherish it even more because it was made by his son!

Have fun!
