Today’s milky fireworks tutorial is a super-fun and easy to set up activity for kids of all ages!  Also – I guarantee you have these ingredients in your kitchen. The results are similar to fireworks exploding – perfect for all those Canadians celebrating Victoria Day!

Supplies to Make Fireworks

All you need is:

  • milk (a couple of cups)
  • a few different colours of food colouring
  • dish detergent
  • a cookie tray

To start, pour some milk into a the cookie tray and add a few drops of food colouring throughout.

Creating Fireworks

Give your child a small bowl of dish detergent and some popsicle sticks.  Show them how to dip the sticks in the soap and then into the milk.

Watch their eyes light up as the milk “runs” away from the detergent in mini-explosions!

Exploding Milk

We even had little swirly “tornados” happening!

Eventually, our milk looked very swirly and colourful.  Very beautiful!  If you do this – have your camera ready to take pictures!

Lots of fun to play with, not messy at all, and easy to clean up and start again!
