This week – we’re all about welcoming Spring birds! We’ve got a roundup of fun activities and tips to attract birds. Everything you need to become a fellow bird-lover with your kiddos this year!
To me, Spring equals birds!
I was walking with Onetime outside the other day as the snow was melting and the air felt much warmer than it had for the last few months. We were talking about the signs of Springtime and the changes that occur and I asked him what he thought of when I said Spring.
His answer was, “The birds start to sing!” and I realized that I had unintentionally groomed a fellow bird lover over the last 3 years.
When I first saw the post below – I was really impressed by what an amazing resource it is for kids’ activities related to birds. We have bookmarked it and are our way through many of the activities at my house this Spring.
The post is by Child Led Life – and it’s called 40 Ways to Welcome Spring Birds.
This post has everything you could possibly want to do with birds and kids! There are crafts, science ideas, learning activities, birdfeeder ideas, printables and more. Check it out!
One Time Through’s Spring Birds Activities
Child Led Life’s roundup included one of my favourite posts here at One Time Through – our Bird’s Nest Craft .
Before you go bird watching, you might want to make this messy, but really easy craft with your little one while learning about nest making.
We also have an easy String Feeder Craft that you can make with the kids to help the birds make their nests this Spring.
If you’re interested in taking your kids on an outdoor search for the signs of Spring (including looking for birds!), be sure to check out our Spring Photo Scavenger Hunt post. It includes a free printable scavenger hunt booklet that also incorporates writing and reading skills.
If your child/children want to do a little research into birds, check out this post by Mosswood Connections with some ideas for getting young kids started.
Help your child learn a little of the science behind flight with this adorable Whirly Twirly Flying Bird craft from Left Brain Craft Brain.
Happy Birding!
